Last year the Roca brothers from Girona's three-Michelin-star El Celler De Can Roca restaurant announced plans to open a bean to bar chocolate factory. Now, those plans are becoming a reality.
According to Diari de Girona, Casa Cacao, the dream of pastry chefJordi Roca, will be located in Girona's Plaça de Catalunya and is set to open in early 2019.
The ground floor will have a chocolate workshop that will be visible from the street and a chocolate bar (no pun intended) where you can taste the various cocoa beans in the form of hot and cold drinks. There will also be a shop, with all packaging made from recycled cacao fibres. Above this will be a 15-room boutique hotel, with a large terrace to drink in views of the city.
Roca, who is currently starring in the latest season of Chef's Table, has been travelling across Central and South America alongside former mentor Damian Allsop in order to totally immerse himself in chocolate culture, studying varieties and fermentations and meeting suppliers, it's reported.
The famed pastry chef, widely considered to be one of the best in the world, already has an ice cream shop in Girona, called ROCAMBOLESC.
