The 36th selection of the Michelin Main Cities of Europe guide has been announced for 2017 and it includes an impressive 2332 restaurants across 44 cities in 20 countries.
The publication serves as a handy all in one guide for food lovers travelling throughout Europe, particularly as it incorporates destinations like Poland and Hungary that don't yet have their own dedicated guide.
Presenting the new guide in Brussels was International Director in charge of the Michelin Guides, Michael Ellis, who commented on the vibrancy and diversity of the culinary scene in Europe’s major cities: “Europe is a veritable crossroads of cultural and economic exchanges and has seen a huge development in its gastronomic scene and in its culinary offering in recent years.”
Below are the restaurants included in the guide that don't yet have their own country guide. There was one exciting new addition to this, with two Michelin starred Amador's in Vienna, Austria.

The European Tour of the Michelin Guide for 2017 is now well and truly over, concluding with the Michelin Guide Main Cities in Europe presentation at Gastronotrends in Brussels on Monday 6 March, where there were a few surprises in store.
The first surprise of the night was the announcement of a special prize, the 2017 Michelin Young Chef Award for Europe presented byS.Pellegrino. Stefano Agostini, President and CEO of the Italian brand, explained that the award was aimed at "highlighting the next generation of chefs."
The award was presented to Motenfrolech Rastad and Christoffer Norton, of restaurant Domestic, located in Aarhus, Denmark. "We received our first star two weeks ago and now this award ... it's fantastic!" said the young chef on the stage of EGG Brussels.
A New Star Chef
The Michelin Guide team also wanted to distinguish another chef: Juan Amador, for his restaurant Amador in Vienna. The German chef, of Spanish origin, based in Vienna, is "the perfect representative of Europe" said Michael Ellis, who also awarded him two stars. The restaurant is “set within an elegant vaulted stone cellar and its glazed wall offers diners a unique view of the wine barrels. The young but experienced chef creates sophisticated, intensely flavoured, artfully presented dishes crafted from top quality ingredients,” says the Michelin Guide's Rebecca Burr.
The little red guide is now set to distribute its stars on the other side of the Atlantic, starting with Brazil in the next fortnight.
Staff shortages are hitting the hospitality sector hard, prompting some restaurants to look outside the industry to train those without restaurant experience for life in the kitchen. Andrew Friedman finds out more.
