Slow Fish 2019

Slow Fish 2019, the Slow Food event dedicated to fish and marine resources comes to Genova. Among tastings, meetings, dinners and workshops.

Slow Fish, the Slow Food and Liguria Region biennial event dedicated to fish and marine resources, returns to Genoa from 9 to 12 May.

Now in its ninth edition, this year's event focuses on "The sea: a common good". All the action will take place at the Porto Antico in the Slow Fish Arena - where chefs, fishermen, researchers, artisans, companies and experts from the international Slow Food network will gather to share their stories and everyday commitment to protecting the sea, with big or small steps.

In between moments of discussion and debate on good practices to support the sea and its creatures there will be tastings, meetings, shows, workshops for children, dinners and a large market, which will animate the marine center of the Ligurian capital, between the Old Port and Piazza Caricamento.

There will also be several dining appointments: dinners orchestrated by leading Italian and international chefs and held at Eataly Genoa. Two Michelin star chef Pino Cuttaia from La Madia di Licata (May 8th, 8.30 pm, for the preview of Slow Fish) and Moreno Cedroni from the Madonnina del Pescatore from Senigallia (May 12th, 8.30 pm), are expected. In addition to Gianfranco Pascucci, Michelin star of Pascucci Al Porticciolo di Fiumicino (9 May, 8.30 pm).

From Dinners to Workshops, chefs, Talks and meetings

There will be no lack of Taste Workshops, to learn about products and producers and to explore fish themes with sea actors. Among the most interesting is the event dedicated to three excellent Italian crustaceans on 11 May at 3.30pm: the red shrimps from Sanremo, Mazara del Vallo and the purple shrimp of Gallipoli.

For those looking for cooking demonstrations, the Slow Food House or Casa Slow Food for the Cooking Schools held by the cooks from the Slow Food Alliance. Among the most eagerly awaited meetings, the appointment with Caroline Rye, the cook from the Scottish Alliance and author of The Urban Fishwife blog (where she describes how to cook 52 different fish species) to learn how to vary products and use less noble fish in the kitchen, in calendar 11 May, at 7.30pm. Also, not to miss is Fish n' Tips, an interactive journey to discover the secrets of the sea.

Finally, the Slow Fish Market will give visitors the chance to stock up on fresh and preserved fish, as well as extra virgin oils, spices and salts to dress an array of fish dishes.

Also at the Market, stop and taste the dishes of the day offered by the Kitchen, to be savored together with a "blonde" beer. Check out Piazza della Birra for beer tastings, while for bites to eat "on the go" there will be an entire area dedicated to street kitchens, with food trucks.
