Located inside the historic Bath Club on Miami Beach, Omawei is an intimate, 10-seat omakase counter led by chef Wei Chen. The restaurant occupies a quiet, minimalist room reached through a narrow interior corridor, giving the experience a discreet, tucked-away feel. The space is centered around a long marble counter where guests sit directly in front of Chen as he prepares each course.

Omawei offers a 16-course tasting menu presented in two distinct phases. The first portion features several small plates that introduce flavors and techniques not typically found in traditional omakase, such as cacio e pepe udon noodles or an Alaskan king crab salad. The second half transitions into a more classic Japanese progression with seasonal fish selections that may include chu-toro, akami, and hotate. The meal concludes with Japanese melon and warm tea.

The atmosphere is quiet and focused, with attention on the preparation and presentation of each dish. Guests can observe Chen’s organized approach as he resets his station between courses and maintains a clean, precise workspace throughout the evening. The room’s lighting and layout emphasize the counter as the center of the experience.

Omawei has two seatings per night. The menu changes according to seasonality and ingredient availability, and Chen incorporates influences from Japanese technique, French methods he learned during his training, and global flavors that reflect his culinary background. Although the menu includes playful touches, the restaurant maintains a strong emphasis on ingredient quality and balance.
Chen’s social media presence, which has grown significantly in a short period of time, provides additional insight into his process. His videos often show how dishes are assembled and highlight the components used at the counter. This digital window aligns closely with the in-person experience, offering guests a preview of the precision and style they will find at Omawei.
