From three-star institutions to first-time honorees, New York's Michelin selection keeps getting more interesting.

Updated: June 2026

New York City is one of the most decorated cities in the world when it comes to Michelin stars. The 2025 Michelin Guide awards 69 starred restaurants across the five boroughs — up from 64 in 2021, the last time this article was updated. That total breaks down into 5 three-star restaurants, 15 two-star restaurants, and 49 one-star restaurants.

The guide has been covering New York since 2006, making it one of the longest-running Michelin markets outside Europe. The city's starred restaurants span an unusually wide range of cuisines, from French haute cuisine and contemporary American tasting menus to Japanese omakase, Korean fine dining, and plant-based cooking — a diversity that sets NYC apart from most other starred cities in the world.

Three-Star Michelin Restaurants in New York City

Three Michelin stars denote "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey." New York has five restaurants at this level in 2025 — one of the highest concentrations of three-star establishments in any single city outside Asia and France.

The newest addition is Sushi Sho, promoted from two to three stars in November 2025. Helmed by chef Keiji Nakazawa, the eight-seat hinoki counter near the New York Public Library offers an omakase experience that Michelin inspectors described as delivering a pace, breadth and consistency of excellence rarely seen even at this level.

The other four three-star restaurants have held their status for several years and are among the most recognized fine dining addresses in the United States.

  • Eleven Madison Park: Daniel Humm's plant-forward tasting menu, a benchmark of contemporary American fine dining
  • Jungsik New York: modern Korean cuisine by chef Yim Jung-sik; promoted to three stars in 2024, it was the first Korean restaurant in the US to reach this level
  • Le Bernardin: Eric Ripert's seafood-focused institution, holding three stars for over a decade
  • Per Se: Thomas Keller's New York flagship, French technique at its most meticulous

Two-Star Michelin Restaurants in New York City

Two Michelin stars signal "excellent cooking, worth a detour." New York's 2025 selection includes 15 two-star restaurants, with Joo Ok newly promoted from one star this year: a Korean tasting menu in the heart of Koreatown that blends minimalist design with technically precise cooking.

One-Star Michelin Restaurants in New York City

One Michelin star means "high-quality cooking, worth a stop." With 49 one-star restaurants, New York's selection at this level is one of the most diverse in the world, ranging from high-end French bistros and Japanese kaiseki to vegetable-focused tasting menus and Korean barbecue.

Six restaurants earned their first star in the 2025 guide: BridgesHuso, Muku, Yamada, Joo Ok (subsequently promoted to two stars at the same ceremony) and one further addition.

How Has New York's Michelin Selection Changed Over the Years?

The 2025 guide marks a significant evolution from the city's earlier selections. The most notable trend in recent years is the rise of Korean and Japanese fine dining at the highest levels. Jungsik's promotion to three stars in 2024 and Sushi Sho's promotion in 2025 reflect a broader shift in what Michelin inspectors are recognizing as world-class cooking in New York — and in the US more broadly.
