New York is the best city in the US in which to be a vegan or vegetarian currently, according to new research.
Wallethub compared 100 cities across 15 key indicators of vegan and vegetarian-friendliness, including cost of groceries and the percentage of restaurants offering vegan and vegetarian options.
New York was found to have the most vegetarian-friendly restaurants and the highest number of juice/smoothie bars and salad shops per capita, though unsurprisingly it didn’t feature in the top five cheapest places to go grocery shopping (San Antonio in Texas being the cheapest).
Chicago had the lowest number of vegan-friendly restaurants, while Newark, New Jersey scored lowly for farmers markets and vegetable nurseries. Greensboro, North Carolina was the lowest scoring city overall.
