The Worlde craze hasn’t gone away, and while fewer people are sharing their results, there are still many of us still in the grip of the digital world game. Now for food lovers, home cooks and chefs, whose worlds revolve around food, we can marry our obsessions in one food-themed digital word game – Phoodle.
How dows Phoodle work
There have been many Wordle spin-offs but the food-themed Phoodle may be the best yet. It is the brainchild of cookbook author Julie Loria, who develops her food vocabulary on a daily basis as a writer. She announced the release of the game on Instagram.
"Test your culinary expertise by guessing a food-related term, from ingredients to appliances to famous chefs and more!" she wrote.
Already the word game has caught the attention of one Martha Stewart, who shared her debut attempt at the game. Her first guess was the French word for beef – ‘boeuf’ – followed by ‘crème’ and ‘apple’. Just as with Wordle, giving away the answer is considered a major Internet faux pas.
Phoodle has been available to play online since May the 1st and the food-related answers have been quite simple, ranging from ‘mango’, to ‘toast’ and ‘broil’. It is expected that as the game continues and the obvious answers get used up, and more people log on, the game will become more of a brain-teaser.
Phoodle works exactly like Wordle. You have to guess the hidden five-letter word in six guesses. With each guess you make, the game displays whether the letters you have entered appear in the hidden world and where. A nice touch is a confetti shower when eventually you get the right answer.
There are also plans to include a weekly recipe and each word reveal comes with a ‘fun food fact’. There’s definitely potential to expand the site beyond mere digital world games.
