The Roca Brothers Bring Sous Vide to The Masses

At the beginning of the year we predicted that one of the major food trends of 2016 would be sous vide cooking in the home. Today, that prediction gained more weight with the launch of a cleverly designed low temperature cooking system designed by the Roca Brothers of the award winning El Celler de Can Roca restaurant in Girona, Spain.

Called Rocook, the device is basically an induction burner that allows home chefs to simply sous vide thanks to the precision temperature control it offers. The device, which can easily sit on any kitchen top, can also prepare confit, sauté, fry and boil.

They say that after years of using sous vide inside their three Michelin starred restaurant, the brothers asked themselves: ““how can we replicate this cooking technique in an easy and practical way for home cooks?”

After asking this question they teamed up with Cata Electrodomésticos and Lékué to help develop the product and Fundació Alícia to give them the scientific base required to give birth to the Rocook machine.

The device is also paired with a cookbook from Joan Roca which gives home cooks the techniques and tips required to cook great sous vide dishes at home and it can all be controlled through a simple app.

The machine costs €399 and the accompanying website, which launched today, offers up a range of different recipes that each come with a video showing you exactly how dishes are prepared. The move is similar to that of ChefSteps and their Joule machine.

Take a look at the video below, it’s in Spanish but gives you an idea of how slick and user friendly the device is.
