Want to cook like David Chang? Take a look at this Momofuku Toasted Sesame Oil, the latest essential condiment from Chang and the Momofuku Culinary Lab in their growing range of secret pantry weapons.
The lightly toasted cold-pressed oil is reported to have been developed over a decade, and is produced in a dinky bottle in batches small enough as to guarantee restaurant-grade quality. As for the flavour profile, it's light, bright toasted sesame oil that's well-balanced with a subtle nuttiness.
At Chang's Momofuku empire they use the oil to enhance marinades and salad dressings, to season rice dishes like kimbap, and much more. For most home cooks it will serve as a natural upgrade to their Korean pantry essentials, adding depth to vegetable side dishes (banchan), bibimbap, and even fried eggs.
The Momofuku Toasted Sesame Oil can be purchased online, and comes in a two-pack for $25, shipping in the US and Canada.
There's also a Liquids Starter Pack that comes complete with the oil, as well as the brand's soy sauce and tamari.
