Ingredients

FOR THE CAKE

Sugar: 1 cup

Flour: 1/4 cup

Cocoa powder: 2 tbsp

Baking soda: 1 tsp

Baking powder: 1 tsp

Canola oil: 3 tbsp

Eggs: 2

Buttermilk: 1 cup

Water: 1 cup

FOR THE FILLING

Heavy cream: 1 cup

Honey: 1 tbsp

Milk chocolate: 1 cup

Dark chocolate: 1 cup

Heavy cream: 3 cups

Vanilla paste: 1 tsp

How to make Three-Layer Chocolate Cake

Make the Cake Layers
  • Mix the dry cake ingredients in one bowl and the wet ingredients in another.
  • Combine until smooth, then bake at 325°F, rotating halfway through.
  • Cool completely and cut into layers.

Prepare the Chocolate Base
  • Combine 1 cup heavy cream, honey, milk chocolate, and dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a double boiler. Melt gently, stirring until smooth.

Finish the Ganache
  • Remove from heat and stir in the remaining 3 cups heavy cream and vanilla paste.
  • Let rest for at least 3 hours.

Whip the Ganache
  • Whip the rested ganache in a mixer for 1 to 3 minutes, or until light and tripled in volume.

Assemble the Cake
  • Layer cake and ganache as desired.
  • Add optional elements such as chocolate pearls or nuts.
  • Refrigerate overnight before serving.
