For the fourth time, Una Pizza Napoletana in New York has been named the best pizzeria in the United States by 50 Top Pizza, the influential Italy-based pizza guide that releases annual rankings across the globe. The 2026 awards were announced on May 27 at the Morris W. and Fannie B. Haft Theater in New York City.
Anthony Mangieri’s celebrated Lower East Side pizzeria once again claimed the top position, while California dominated the next tier of the rankings. Pizzeria Sei in Los Angeles and Tony’s Pizza Napoletana in San Francisco tied for second place, followed by Razza in Jersey City at No. 3 and Truly Pizza in Dana Point at No. 4.
What Is 50 Top Pizza?
50 Top Pizza is an annual guide published by a team of inspectors who evaluate pizzerias anonymously across the United States and worldwide. According to the organization, inspections focus on “the overall attention given to the customer’s wellbeing, beginning of course with the quality of the final product.”
What Happened at the 2026 Awards
New York remained the country’s pizza capital according to the guide, with 27 pizzerias represented overall and 24 venues located within New York City itself. California followed with 13 placements, while Florida landed 10 pizzerias on the expanded guide, which now includes 116 total establishments across 29 states.
The organization also announced its annual Pizza Slice rankings, recognizing standout slice shops around the country. L'industrie Pizzeria in New York took the top position, followed by Slice & Pie in Washington, D.C., and Miami Slice in Miami.
According to 50 Top Pizza curators Barbara Guerra, Luciano Pignataro, and Albert Sapere, the American pizza landscape continues to evolve rapidly, with greater stylistic diversity and increasingly high standards across the country.
The top 15 pizzerias on the main list, along with the top three slice shops, automatically qualify for the upcoming 100 Best Pizzerias in the World rankings, which will be announced in Naples later this year.
