If you’re heading to Silverstone, you may well be starting and ending your journey in London and if so, looking for great restaurants to slip into your weekend itinerary.

Silverstone itself, in Northamptonshire, is surrounded by archetypal English countryside and iconic historical locations, from Bletchley Park, a top-secret WWII code-cracking centre, to Blenheim Palace a little further to the southwest, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Daylesford Organic

Now a successful chain of farm shops, the original Daylesford Organic farm in the Cotswolds boasts not only a farm shop brimming with fresh, flavorful produce, a spa, and cookery school on site, but three restaurants with all-day dining and afternoon tea available. Dishes range from classic steaks to lighter salads to boards of their own cheese, plus pastas and wood-fired pizzas, and separate menus for kids (who’ll love the homemade organic ice cream). If you’d like to extend your time you can even stay over at the farm, or they’ll put you up in nearby villages.

Lita

Lita is a neighborhood restaurant at heart, albeit with a MICHELIN star in London’s well-heeled Marylebone. New Culinary Director Kostas Papathanasiou brings a wealth of experience from restaurants like The Fat Duck and The Ledbury to live-fire focused, Mediterranean-leaning Lita, where a meal can kick off with a series of rösti snacks topped with exemplary British seafood, before more serious plates arrive and the kitchen really starts to show off. Do not miss the grilled Orkney scallop with pumpkin, and lobster sauce, a standout dish that will make you feel like you’re discovering this wonderful ingredient anew.

Ottolenghi Bicester

Bicester Village designer outlet shopping center in Oxfordshire is a bit of an IYKYK kind of place – you may even spot a celebrity or royalty browsing the racks for a bargain at one of over 150 boutiques (the Princess of Wales is said to be a fan). All that shopping (and spending) makes one hungry, of course; luckily, there’s an all-day Yotam Ottolenghi restaurant on site to keep giddy shoppers satiated. You can expect a range of Southern Mediterranean and Middle Eastern classics, like shakshuka, chicken shawarma and fattoush, from the chef who helped change the way Brits eat, plus a natural-leaning wine list.

Pompette

This relaxed French bistro in Oxford’s upmarket Summertown neighbourhood hits just the right note for a long lunch or cosy dinner. Run by husband and wife duo Pascal and Laura Wiedemann (pictured), there’s a homely and welcoming feel to Pompette, named after the French word for tipsy. Dishes are pure comfort food, think steak and moules frites, fish soup, soufflé and canelés, while prix fixe menus up the authenticity. They know their wine too and have even crafted their own range of red and white Bordeaux, available to quaff in the restaurant. A daily apéro hour between 5 and 6pm will ease you into the evening with drinks and snacks – a little taste of what they do, whether you’re staying for dinner or moving on.

Teal by Sally Abé

Chef Sally Abé (pictured) describes her first restaurant, opened after acclaimed stints at the likes of The Harwood Arms and The Bull Charlbury, as a “little British bistro” in East London, which might lead you to think “casual”. But the cooking is serious here, with a menu that looks to celebrate and revive classic British cooking and ingredients, but always with a lightness of touch. There’s much playfulness to be found too alongside the richly roasted hunks of meat, fresh fish and seafood, and bang on season produce, especially amongst the desserts, where you can expect to round of a meal with an ice cream sandwich or marshmallow teacake.

The Bull Charlbury

The Bull, in the pretty Cotswolds town of Charlbury, is a renovated 16^th-century pub with rooms with a strong farm-to-fork ethos, buckets of character and plenty of outdoor space for warmer days. Much of the pub’s produce comes from its own market garden, with a menu leaning live fire and robust, seasonal and British – think joyous bread and butter, sweet, flame-kissed vegetables, hunks of meat and oozy pies. They offer breakfast too, even if you’re just passing through. The best thing about a big, stuff yourself until you can’t eat any more lunch at The Bull? A stroll around Charlbury afterwards to walk it off, taking in the fresh Cotswolds air.

The Wild Rabbit

Part of the Daylesford group, The Wild Rabbit is a gastropub with rooms in Kingham, one of those quaint Cotswolds villages that makes visitors swoon and immediately start checking house prices on their phones. Summer days are for lounging on the terrace, enjoying drinks before settling in at the restaurant, where an open kitchen allows you to watch the chefs at work. The Cotswolds are fast becoming a must-visit food destination and it’s because of pubs like The Wild Rabbit, where the menu (both à la carte and tasting) moves from dishes like potato mille-feuille to day boat wild halibut to lemon meringue custard pie.
