The documentary traces the lives of people working at Achatz's Alinea in Chicago, the 150-year old Breitbach's Contry Dining in Iowa and the emerging Mexican bar and grill known as La Cocina de Gaby in Tucson.
Achatz talks about overcoming tongue cancer and why he's driven by creativity. Thomas Keller also makes an appearance and describes Achatz as being ''ahead of the curve.'' At the time of filming Alinea ranked 7th in the World's 50 Best Restaurants list sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna but has since slid down to the 15th spot.
The folks at Breitbach's discuss how a massive fire nearly caused them to go out of business while the owners of La Cocina de Gaby talk about their struggles to put food on the table. The documentary tells you why, despite all their challenges, all of these dedicated people continue to cook.
