The Michelin Guide for Hong Kong and Macau 2022 has dropped with news of two Hong Kong restaurants earning a second Michelin star, and nine Hong Kong restaurants picking up one Michelin star.
Italian restaurant Octavium, helmed by Austrian chef Roland Schuller and German chef Bjoern Alexander, steps up to two-star status for its house-made artisanal pasta and seasonally inspired menu. Also awarded two stars was Cantonese restaurant Yan Toh Heen, which serves authentic dishes like crispy-skin Longgang chicken, against a harbour-side backdrop.
Octavium and Yan Toh Heen join 15 other restaurants with two Michelin stars in Hong Kong and Macau, taking the total up to 17. The ten three-star restaurants, seven in Hong Kong and three in Macau, retain their status in this guide.
Nine new one-star restaurants achieved a first Michelin star, representing a wide range of cuisines, from French and Indian, to Korean and Cantonese: French-inspired Belon, Korean chef Mingoo Kang's Hansik Goo, I M Teppanyaki & Wine, Sushi Wadatsumi, Singaporean chef Barry Quek's Whey, chef Manav Tuli's Indian street food restaurant Chaat, Latin American Mono, Cantonese Seventh Son and Yong Fu, which serves Ningbo cuisine.
That now takes Hong Kong and Macau up to a total of 59 one-Michelin-starred restaurants.
Richard Ekkebus was also awarded a Michelin green star for sustainable practices at his restaurant, Amber.
