This morning saw the much-anticipated release of the Michelin Guide Italy 2013. The northwestern region of Piedmont made big news with the announcement of Enrico Crippa'sPiazza Duomo as the only restaurant being upgraded to three stars (pictured above).
In total, Italy has 307 Michelin stars: seven three-star restaurants, 39 two-star restaurants and 261 one-star restaurants. Three restaurants were awarded two new Michelin stars and 25 restaurants received their first star. However, 14 restaurants lost their sole Michelin star.
But today's big winner was the southern region of Campania, which is home to six restaurants receiving their first Michelin star. That brings the total number of Michelin stars in the region to 27.
Three restaurants in Rome also received their first Michelin star. Those restaurants are: Metamorfosi, Pipero al Rex and La Terrazza at Hotel Eden. Some restaurants to be on the lookout in 2014 include Mirabelle at Hotel Splendid in Rome and Kresios in Telese Terme.
