After more than a year of crafting the world's first edible opera, El Somni - created by The Roca Brothers - will debut tonight in Barcelona before moving on to other locations around the globe.
Although the guest list is a guarded secret, Gastroeconomy reports that seven men and five women will partake in this groundbreaking gastronomic experience. The 12 participants are ''an HIV researcher, a cook, an anthropologist, an actress, a theoretical physicist, a poet, an artist, a film director, a research biologist, a conductor, a food writer and a robotics researcher.''
The excitement has been felt all weekend as The Roca Brothersupdated their Twitter accounts with pictures and information about rehearsals. Just this morning they posted the full wine list for the 12-course opera and announced they are ready for showtime.
The brothers collaborated with a number of visual artists including Franc Aleu to produce this multi-sensorial dining experience. Aleu and illustratorPeretdesigned Barcelona cards, a set of flash cards that will be used throughout the opera to enhance creativity.
So far, El Somni sounds like a truly out-of-this-world experience. Here is how it the 12 acts will be divided, each with its own sound effects, music and imagery:

Parmentier potatoes with purple bone marrow and caviar, purple flowers and incense smoke
