Charles Namba’s Favorite Places to Eat in Los Angeles
About the list
Sea Harbour in Alhambra is one of the best dim sum restaurants I know.
When I’m craving Korean food, I head to the corner of 8th and Vermont. Soowon Galbi serves up amazing food and good quality proteins. I like the beef tongue, shaved brisket/bulgogi and the short rib soup, which I wash down with shochu and a cold beer.
I love those restaurants where you really feel what the chef is doing—just like a person, this is different, unique but simple—and that’s what I find at Dunsmoor.
Chef Ori Menashe’s Middle Eastern restaurant is amazing. I just love that kind of food with all the pita bread and dips.
Since I started my career in pizza, this spot is always nostalgic to me. I like lighter pizzas with fresher tomato sauce so that you can eat a whole pizza and still feel good. I used to like Hawaiian but as I’m getting older, I don’t like pineapple on pizza. I like one or two toppings, like pepperoni and jalapenos. Or a simple mushroom pizza (as long as it’s not oyster mushroom but rather button mushroom).
When I’m looking for a quick drink and consistent service, the bar at South Beverly Grill delivers. My drink of choice here is a gin martini.
Pizzeria Bianco

Pizzeria Bianco, located in the Row DTLA development in Downtown Los Angeles, opened in 2022 as chef Chris Bianco’s first official pizzeria outside its historic Phoenix home and his inaugural West Coast outpost.
