Best Lunch Spots in San Francisco, According to a Michelin-Starred Chef
About the list
The casual, minimalist daytime Sunset restaurant is the first on Liedags’ list.
“I love the Tamale Bowl,” they say.
On a nice day, the bowl is meant to be enjoyed at the cantina’s spacious outdoor parklet.
Liedags has a soft spot for this tried-and-trusted Russian bakery and café in the Richmond District, where many Eastern European delis can be found.
“Sometimes I just want a large bowl of borscht or barley soup,” they say.
Liedags also always orders the piroshki—small yeast dough pastries filled with savory fillings.
Also in the Richmond, Breadbelly is a cozy café with Asian influences. While many come for the neon-green kaya toast, Liedags has other ideas.
“You must try the Shrimpwich and sit outside in the sunny parklet,” they say.
The sandwich features a fried shrimp patty, candied walnuts, iceberg lettuce, cilantro, red onion, and honey mayo.
“My lunch go-tos are the carnitas and the café de olla,” Liedags says.
The casual Mexican restaurant pairs perfectly with a stroll through nearby Golden Gate Park.
For a daytime dumpling fix, Liedags heads to this Michelin-recommended spot, which specializes in steamed, fried, and boiled dumplings alongside traditional Chinese salads and soups.
“Get the Numb and Spicy Pork xiao long bao and the Potato Salad,” the chef recommends.
