Zagat 2020 is back in print and Le Bernadin is top of the pile

Journalist

After a three year hiatus, the iconic maroon book the Zagat is back in print for a 40th-anniversary edition.

Bought from Google by review platform The Infatuation a year ago the industry had been speculating what exactly they would do with it. As it turns out, they haven’t tinkered with it at all and have gone back to its original format. With organizations scaling back print operations of late, a decision to print a real book you can keep in your car or on your coffee table has been very well received.

The book Features 1,400+ Restaurant Reviews, a decade-by-decade retrospective of 40 years in New York City dining and a foreword by restaurateur Danny Meyer.

Le Bernardin received the top rating for Food and was the Most Popular restaurant in this year's book, as determined by survey participants. The top three for food was completed by Daniel Boulud’s Daniel and David Bouley’s Bouley at Home, followed by Sushi Nakazawa, Gabriel Kreuther, Decoy, Lucali, Eleven Madison Park, 4 Charles Prime Rib and Via Carota.

Majorelle displaced Asiate as No. 1 on the best décor list. Le Bernardin slipped to second place after Daniel on the best-service list. Eleven Madison Park came in third after Will Guidara and chef Daniel Humm parted company earlier this year.

The Zagat 2020 New York City Restaurants Guide is driven by more than 200,000 ratings and reviews from New York City restaurant-goers who participated in a web-based survey launched by the brand in April 2019.
