Muñoz picks up the award for the second consecutive year for his work at DiverXO restaurant, which was also named Best Restaurant in Madrid. The chef was also voted best chef by fellow professionals.

The three-Michelin-star chef was overjoyed to claim the award: “Thank you, voters and colleagues, it’s an honour, an incredible thing,” he said.

Noma’s Rene Redzepi was named as second on the list, while Spain’s Joan Roca came in third place. Indeed Spain was the country that provided the most amount of new chefs to the list, followed by Italy and France.

Italy’s Franco Pepe, from the Pepe In Grani pizzeria, won the Best Pizza award for the second consecutive year, while Mugaritz’s Andoni Luis Aduriz picked up the award for Best Science Chef. The Innovation Award went to Australia’s Josh Niland.
