The best pizzeria in North America was announced today at the James Beard House in New York, in partnership with S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna, with gold going toRazza Pizza Artigianale.
The Jersey City restaurant owned by pizza chef Dan Richer, whose goal is to "serve the best pizza possible" using their own yeast culture in their dough, locally sourced ingredients and a wood fired pizza oven, have certainly lived up to their ambitions. A modest pizza menu spans from classics like "La Rossa" and "margherita" through to "Bosco" topped with cremini mushrooms and fontina and "Guancia" topped off with guanciale, shaved onion, pecorino with enough aplomb to make pizza fans sit up and notice.
Second place went to Pizzeria Bianco in Phoenix Arixona and third went to Lucali's in New York. This year the US dominated the top ten with pizza central, New York, boasting five of the best pizzerias, while Canada bagged one place in the top ten with The Good Son pizzeria just making the cut.
The annual list of the 50 best pizzerias is generated by 50 Top Pizza and selects the best pizzerias in the US and Canada.
