The Michelin Guide unveiled its first ever selection for the city of Istanbul, Turkey, with 53 restaurants recognised – four with one star and one new two-star restaurant.
Chef Fatih Tutak was recognised with a debut two-star showing at the award ceremony, when his TURK Fatih Tutak restaurant made history. Tutak returned to his native Istanbul after stints at three-Michelin-starred Nihonryori Ryugin, led by chef Seiji Yamamoto in Tokyo, and at Noma in Copenhagen under René Redzepi. The Turkish chef now represents the vanguard of a new modern Turkish fine-dining scene.
Single stars were awarded to four restaurants in the city, including Araka, Mikla, Nicole and Neolokal, which was also awarded a green star for sustainability. The Michelin Young Chef Award went to Mevlüt Özkaya, who works at Mürver, while the Service Award was given to the team at The Sunset Grill & Bar.
Mauro Colagreco’s restaurant Mirazur becomes the first three-Michelin-star restaurant to obtain B Corp status for its high environmental and social standards.
