How to cook white rice
The water to white rice ratio is 2 cups water to 1 cup rice.
Bring the water to a boil, season it with salt, and add rice. Reduce the heat to low and cover the pot. Keep the rice simmering and check it for doneness about 17 minutes later.
When the rice is cooked, remove the pot from the heat and allow the rice to sit for a few minutes to absorb any remaining liquid. Fluff the rice with a fork and let it sit for two minutes, so the excess moisture dries off.
How to cook brown rice
Bring a large pot of water to a boil, using 6 cups of water per 1 cup of rice. Rinse the rice in a strainer under running water to remove any excess starch.
Add the rice to the boiling water. Reduce the heat if necessary to prevent overflow while maintaining a steady boil. Boil, without the lid, for 30 minutes.
Drain the cooking water and return the rice to the pot. Put the lid on and allow the rice to rest, off the heat, for 10 minutes. Fluff it with a fork, add seasoning, and serve.
How to cook wild rice
Place wild rice, water and salt in a saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir it well and put the lid on.
Bring it to a boil, then simmer for 40-45 minutes on low heat. If you use soaked wild rice, it will take about 20-30 minutes to cook.
Drain excess water and serve.
How to cook basmati rice
Place the rice in a fine mesh strainer under cold running water for a couple of minutes to remove excess starch.
Mix the rice, water, butter, and salt in a medium pot.
Bring to a boil.
Turn the heat down to a simmer and cover the pot.
Cook for 15 to 20 minutes until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. If the rice is still too firm, add a few more tablespoons of water and cook for a few more minutes.
Take the pan off the heat and let it sit covered for 5 minutes, then fluff the rice with a fork.
How to cook jasmine rice
In a pot with a lid, combine the rice with 1 1/3 cups of water. Cover the pot and bring the water to a boil.
Turn the heat down to low, and let the rice simmer for 10 minutes or until the water is absorbed.
Turn off the heat and leave the pot covered for about 15 minutes. Then, fluff the rice with a fork.
How to store cooked rice
If you’ve cooked too much rice, you may wonder how long it can be stored safely. Cooked rice lasts in the fridge for up to five days. You can also freeze it. Cool it as quickly as possible by placing it in a shallow container in the refrigerator. Once the rice is completely cold, portion it into freezer bags and store them in the freezer for up to six months.
