Bastion is located in Nashville’s Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood and is defined by its dual format, offering both a casual bar and a more intimate dining experience under one roof.
The bar, which opened in February 2016, functions as a neighborhood gathering space, designed as a relaxed environment for local entrepreneurs and artists. Just three months later, Bastion expanded to include a restaurant hidden behind an iron door, creating a distinct contrast between the two spaces.
The restaurant is an intimate 24-seat dining room led by chef and co-owner Josh Habiger. The menu is structured as an ever-evolving, multi-course à la carte format, allowing for flexibility and change over time while maintaining a focus on progression and seasonality.
Since opening, Bastion has received both regional and national recognition. In 2017, it was named one of the Best New Restaurants in America by Eater and one of the Best New Restaurants in the South by Southern Living. That same year, it was recognized as a semifinalist for Best New Restaurant by the James Beard Foundation. Habiger has also been named a semifinalist for Best Chef: Southeast in 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2023, and was a finalist in the category in 2023.
