World's Biggest Wine Festival Comes to Germany
Bad Durkheim becomes home to two weekends of merry making in this traditional wine festival championing German wine, food and festivities.
'Wurstmarkt' or 'sausage market' is perhaps a misleading title for one of the oldest and largest wine fairs in Germany, clocking up almost 600 years. With the grand number of over 600.000 revellers expected to attend this year's outdoor festivities, this is set to be quite knees up.
An official opening ceremony will take place on the first day with the Mayor in attendance, live music and traditional processions.
Dozens of tents and marquees will form the wine town, offering everything from rustic delights with a nod to the events historical roots right through to gourmet delights. Over 300 award winning local wines will be poured generously into half litre glasses, or classic stemmed glasses, perhaps contributing to the very reason hundreds of thousands of litres of wine will be drunk over the course of the event.
Wheeling in the wine barrels in the ceremonious walk:
Enjoy hundreds of wines and dedicated wine halls. Rub shoulders with new found friends in the rustic bench style seating. Prost!
