There has been much talk about the refrigerators of the future. We’ve seen a smart fridge you can access from your phone, one that comes equipped with a coffee maker and a noise-free 'green' fridge that comes with WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, among others.

However, Russian designer Yuriy Dmitriev has come up with a design that rivals all those bells and whistles. His Bio Robot Refrigerator is a zero energy appliance filled with green gel that doesn't require doors, drawers or a motor.

The Bio Robot Refrigerator can be mounted on a wall either upright or sideways. Perhaps the coolest part of the design is the bright green gel where groceries are suspended. You simply stash your food and the gel molds around it and keeps it cool.

Its name comes from the bio robots (aka the cooling agents in the gel) which use light generated in cold temperatures to preserve food, according to Inhabitat. Here is how it works:

Dmitriev's fridge design was a finalist in the Electrolux Design Lab competition but only time will tell if his Bio Robot Refrigerator will become an every day appliance.

What do you think? Are you intrigued by the green gel? What would you store in it? Tell us on Facebook.
