You are what you eat and that is even truer for footballers. The days of footballers downing 6 pints of ale and a pie after a game are long gone and these well-paid elite athletes observe a strict dietary regimen to give them the edge.
Michelin star trained chef Jonny Marsh is the ‘personal chef’ of Manchester City stars like Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan and Kyle Walker.
When Marsh received a call from an unknown number it turned out to be a representative from the Premier League champions enquiring about his availability to cook for some of the biggest stars in football.
Marsh has to prepare the right food for the players, according to their playing schedule. Whether they are eating pre-game, or recovering post game, whether there’s a quick turn-around for a mid-week game or they extra energy for a high-stakes Champions League clash.
If the game goes well and one of his players nabs a hattrick, Marsh is quick to point out that it must have been the quinoa salad that was responsible.
