All in white
This week FDL attended a very special dinner. We took part in Diner en Blanc, a secret pop up dining experience with just one rule. All the guests must wear white. We were lucky enough to get access to this very secret dinner group and take part in their New York event.
The piece examined the movement, how it originated in Paris and gave some insight as to what it's like to attend a special dining event with guests wearing feathers, white tuxedos, overalls, lace, Andy Warhol-style wigs and even the odd bathrobe.
There was also a dining event that was quite literally underground, some top picnic locations in New York City and a look at The Gastronauts a dining club with a difference.
It's food fighting time
This week FDL payed homage to a 70-year tradition: The Tomatina Festival. Held in the little city of Bunol, in Spain, the festival attracts around 50,000 revelers each year all with the sole purpose of throwing as many tomatoes as possible.
Over 100 tons of tomato are thrown in just a few hours and to show you just how much sauce that makes FDL brought an amazing picture gallery of the 2010 event and an intriguing look at what started this peculiar festival.
Staying true to the tomato FDL also brought two new recipes - One for an original Bloody Mary and the other for a refreshing tomato gazpacho.
The balsamic vinegar master
As part of the FDL tastekeeper series we've met a number of the world's best food producers and this week was no different. FDL travelled to Reggio Emlia, Italy, to have a taste of a traditional balsamic vinegar that's been produced by the same family for 100 years.
Alessandra Medici and her family have crafted this exquisite and luxurious condiment for four generations and allowed FDL to find out how the vinegar is made and what makes it so special. While there we filmed a revealing interview bringing yet another look at yet another group of individuals who dedicate their lives to preserving traditions and flavours.
There was also a recipe for braided pork fillet with balsamic vinegar, a look at some perfect balsamic vinegar pairings from Alessandra herself and a second recipe for greens flled tortelli with balsamic vinegar.
Also this week
There was a look at alcohol production in the Middle East and FDL met both a wine producer and beer brewer to find out more about their work. There was also a look at the Getty Museum in LA and some of the amazing food being served in the Getty Villa.
