Here’s an interesting infographic that questions our perceptions of value and how they can change dramatically over time.
Produced by Voucher Cloud, it starts with a quote from Gustave Flaubert: “There is no truth. There is only perception.” It then goes on to present a number of interesting cases that show just how true this statement is.
The first example given is that of lobster and how it has changed from a peasant food to a luxurious ingredient from the 17th century to the 19th. It actually shows how lobster was once kept for the prisoners and servants of the day and a timeline that explains the important events that helped to change this - induing the new conservation laws of the 1940s.
The infographic then went on to examine how healthy foods got pricey and some other examples of how perception is never set in stone.
It’s an insightful look and makes you wonder what common ingredients we might one day class as delicacies.
