The trailer for Nicolas Cage’s new film Pig has dropped and it looks unusual, to say the least.
Cage, no stranger to off-beat roles, plays a hermit-like mushroom forager living in the Oregonian wilderness, who enlists the help of a truffle salesman to help him track down his foraging companion, who has been pignapped .
The film also stars Adam Arkin, Nina Belforte, Dalene Young, Gretchen Corbett, Julia Bray, Darius Pierce and Elijah Ungvary. Pig is directed by Michael Sarnoski, who wrote the script with Vanessa Block..
Strange as the premise sounds, the world of foraging, and truffle hunting in particular, is a murky one, with prized truffle dogs often being deliberately harmed in order to protect a certain ‘patch’ from other foragers.
In the works since 2019, the film shows off Oregon’s wild forests, as well as the restaurant scene in Portland, which supports the foraging practices. Cage's character moves through the city’s underbelly, as he tracks down his beloved pig.
Pig is scheduled for theatrical release in the US on 16 July.
