If you want to jump-start the day in a savoury way, why not try a traditional Japanese Breakfast?
While Western breakfasts tend to champion sugar, butter, frying and carbs, Japanese breakfasts are all about the staples and savoury umami flavours.
A traditional Japanese breakfast is a lot more like a complete and balanced meal, with a combination of protein, carbohydrates, and vegetables, all served with hot green tea.
Here's what usually makes up a Japanese breakfast:
Japanese Breakfast Foods
1. Steamed rice
A small bowl of steamed and polished white rice.
2. Protein
Grilled or broiled fish is a popular choice - try koji salmon - otherwise, you try a boiled egg or tofu.
3. Miso soup
A bowl of freshly made steaming umami-packed miso soup. Find the miso soup recipe here.
4. Side dishes
A side serving of small side dishes of tsukemono (Japanese pickles), natto (fermented soybeans), nori (dried seaweed sheets), kobachi (small side dishes of vegetables) or even fruit.

While this is a traditional mix, obviously, like any breakfast it's open to personal interpreation.
