Every wine is different, that’s what makes it great. The earth, location, the weather, the age, style of production, all have a final say on what your wine tastes like. However varied each wine can be, grape varieties do share similar characteristics and knowing how to identify these can really help you start to understand wine better.
This understanding only helps you find more great wines you enjoy and can be a real eye opener to undiscovered bottles you may not have tried otherwise.
It’s with all this in mind that Wine Folly have created the infographic below that lists the flavour profiles of 16 different red wine varieties.
There’s ten different characteristics offered for each variety, with a rating of five for the strength of each characteristic.
