Los Angeles diners will soon be able to enter George Lucas’ universe without traveling to a galaxy far, far away. Skywalker Grill, the signature restaurant atop the new Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, will open September 22 alongside the museum in Exposition Park.
Open to the public as well as museum visitors, the restaurant will serve lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. It will remain open after the galleries close, positioning it as more than a place to refuel between exhibitions.
There is no blue milk on the announced menu. Instead, Skywalker Grill will pair California-grown ingredients with familiar American dishes, including Dungeness crab cakes, lobster corn dogs, crispy chicken Milanese, honey-miso-glazed salmon, and the Skywalker Ranch Wagyu Burger. House-made pastas and seasonal salads round out the offerings.
The connection to Lucas extends beyond the restaurant’s name. Skywalker Grill takes its inspiration from the hospitality of Skywalker Ranch, the filmmaker’s secluded production campus in Northern California. Rhubarb Events & Hospitality Collection, part of Oak View Group, will operate the restaurant.
“Skywalker Grill is a natural complement to the Lucas Museum experience, offering an inviting space for guests to connect over great food and conversation before or after visiting our galleries,” said Tracey Bates, CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. “We are equally excited for it to serve as a destination for Angelenos from across the city.”
Rockwell Group’s Los Angeles office designed the restaurant, combining contemporary and Midcentury Modern elements. Individually crafted cherry wood panels cover the walls and ceiling, while illuminated white Corian surfaces produce an onyx-like glow. A sculptural bar occupies the center of the dining room.
The space also includes a private dining room with glass walls that can shift from transparent to frosted, along with a landscaped outdoor terrace overlooking Los Angeles. The views may not stretch to Tatooine, but they should reach well beyond Exposition Park.
Skywalker Grill will open alongside the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art, the long-awaited institution founded by George Lucas and Mellody Hobson. Designed by Ma Yansong of MAD with Stantec, the 300,000-square-foot museum will explore visual storytelling through works ranging from paintings and illustration to comics and cinematic artifacts. Its 11-acre campus includes parkland designed by Mia Lehrer and Studio-MLA.
Reservations for Skywalker Grill are now available through Resy. The restaurant and the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art open September 22.
