There are a total of 24 Michelin-star restaurants in Chicago. This includes a single three-star restaurant, Grant Achatz’s Alinea, three two-star restaurants, and 18 one-star restaurants. Michelin released its 2021 Chicago guide despite most restaurants remaining closed due to the pandemic.

After a difficult year for restaurants in the city which included some high profile closures, the city did receive some good news in the awarding of two new two-star restaurants in Ever by chef  Curtis Duffy and Moody Tongue by Jared Wentworth, as well as one new one-star restaurant Porto. Chicago remains one of the US's thriving centres for culinary talent and with the wealth of talent at work in the city, there is a bright future ahead with surely more stars to come.

Sadly, three restaurants are conspicuous by their absence having closed their doors permanently due to the pandemic. These include Band of Bohemia, the country’s only Michelin-starred gastropub, Blackbird, a West Loop landmark that counted President Barack Obama and Michael Jordan among its former diners, and Jean Joho’s Everest, perched atop the Chicago Stock Exchange since 1986..
