Jello or jelly shots are popping up everywhere, from birthday parties to weddings. They come in all sorts of enticing colours and shapes, and making them at home has become somewhat of a competitive sport. Adding jelly shots to your gatherings is a sure way to make them more fun. With that in mind, we would like to share this exciting recipe for jello shots.

Ingredients

Vodka ½ cup
Jello gelatin 1 package
Boiling water 1 cup
Cold water ½ cup

Step 01

On the stovetop, boil 1 cup of water.

Step 02

Add the entire package of jello gelatin mix to a mixing bowl. Using a whisk, dissolve jello in boiling water.

Step 03

Add vodka and cold water to the mixing bowl, 1/2 cup each. Mix everything with a whisk.

Step 04

On a baking sheet, place the 2-ounce plastic cups without the lids.

Step 05

Fill plastic shot cups with the mixture and place in the fridge until it is set, about 2 hours. For storage and travel, cover with lids once set.

Tips

  • In general, vodka and white rum are both great options for jelly shots, although other spirits, like gin, whiskey, tequila and brandy, are all fair game.
  • Jello shots won't set properly if you add too much alcohol. Generally, a basic batch of jello shots is made with one cup of juice or water, one packet of gelatin, 1/2 cup of cold water and 1/2 cup of alcohol. However, jello shots can be made with as much as 2/3 cup alcohol without changing their texture.
  • You can serve jello shots as is or top them with a swirl of whipped cream.
