The meeting, taking place at the Basque Culinary Centre, will see Spanish chefs Andoni Luiz Aduriz and Joan Roca welcome the likes of Grant Achatz, Gaston Acurio, Massimo Bottura, Ferran Adria and Alex Atala who will attend a series of discussions addressing the matter of fish sustainability and depleting ocean stocks.
Over 15 of the world’s best chefs will be in town to support Oceana who work to change policy in some of the largest fishing countries around the world. They argues that around 90 percent of all seafood is actually caught by just 30 countries that clever policy changes such as ‘limit by catch’ could hugely benefit rapidly depleting ocean stocks.
Speaking ahead of the meeting, Chef Aduriz said: “It is truly amazing that so many prominent chefs who are so hectically busy, are coming to San Sebastian… Chefs feel passionately about the importance of wild seafood, not just on the small scale and what it brings to our kitchens, but also because of its importance to the planet. I think we all just deeply feel the need to support this campaign and help make the oceans abundant again.”
