Spotlight on Pomegranates
Here at FDL we kicked off the week with a look at pomegranates, a Middle Eastern fruit regarded as the giver of good fortune when consumed in the New Year.
In our article Pomegranate A to Z: 26 Interesting Things To Know we discovered a wealth of information about this tangy fruit. For instance, did you know pomegranate seeds are used as a spice in India?
It's also interesting to note pomegranates are regarded as a potent aphrodisiac, right up there with chocolate.Â
Italian Lunch Bags Make A Comeback
From tasty pomegranate we went to to explore the rising trends of Italian lunch boxes. Italians have traditionally frown upon leftovers but that's all changing now.
As you'll read in Shic-Chic: The Italian Lunch Bag Revival, modern lunch boxes are nothing like the tin versions used by Italians workers half a century ago.
It's really interesting to see a country known for its great gastronomy warming up to brown paper bags - in their own style, of course.
Film & Food
We rounded off the week with a personal interview with Italian film director Luca Guadagnino who was nominated for an Oscar in 2009 for I am Love starring Tilda Swinton.
The film director splits his time between Paris and Cremona, a city in Northern Italy. In this exclusive interview he opened up to FDL about his passion for film and food.
It turns out Guadagnino loves cooking and is a big fan of legendary French chef Paul Bocuse.
