The first big mention for 2011 was the now annual Taste of Milan food festival. Held at the city's hippodrome very close to the towering San Siro stadium, the festival aims to highlight and celebrate the best food available in the city. 20 of the best chefs and restaurants ran stands at the event, giving visitors the chance to sample a huge mix of high end food from Milan.
The recently crowned one star Michelin restaurants, Pont De Ferr and Alice were there in 2011 edition and with food stalls, tastings and a number of producers selling their wares, Taste of Milan is a great way to sample a cities entire food map in one location: while waiting for 2012 edition, from 17th to 20th May, don't miss our 2011 report!
The Salone Internazionale del Mobile is one of the biggest design and furniture events in the world. Running for 50 years, the week long event incorporates some of the most prestigious brands around the world and a number of visitors eagerly hunting the newest emerging design trends. But food was not forgotten with a number for events held with food as their main focus. Temporary fine dining restaurants are what caught FDL's eye and we managed to get an invite to the Midnight Dinners event and bring a full report from this magical evening - with, of course, a full and atmospheric picture gallery.
Italians love food, that fact is almost impossible to avoid in Italy, but it's not just love - it's passion and for many it's life. Every Italian has a special recipe past through the family or a dish indicative of their particular region. But is the best Italian food eaten in Italy ? Most Italians will argues that it is but FDL were privy to a unique experiments with 12 chefs that aimed to answer this controversial question at Le Grand Fooding Milan. There was also some great pictures from the night to give you an idea of just what a special experiment this was.
Of course being one of the major cities in Europe, Milan has its famous restaurants and chefs. Two of these are Claudio Sadler and Carlo Cracco and on two separate occasions FDL were lucky enough to meet and interview the award winning chefs.
If all these events, festivals and top chefs isn't enough to fill you up, what about sampling one of Milan's many cultutal offerings by visting the 900 Museum. Here you can sample art from the likes of Picasso, De Chirico, Balla, Modigliani and many more. But when FDL visited it was the museum's restaurant over facing the famous Duomo cathedral that caught our attention.
