Alice Waters, regarded as the ‘Mother of American Food’ and the pioneer of thefarm to tablemovement in the United States sits down with Guy Raz for NPR’s How I Built This podcast.
Waters shares her story, from living in Paris and having her eyes opened to French food and fresh produce to cooking for her publisher friends and her first tentative steps towards opening Chez Pannise. She has, from the beginning worked hard to utilise only locally sourced Californian ingredients and fostered a relationship with the regions food and wine producers.
With her gentle, soulful manner, Waters is a sheer delight to listen to. Guy Raz’z thoughtful and easy-going interview style make for an engaging and informative hour-long podcast. It’s well worth your time if you’ve interest in listening to a woman, who followed her heart, listened to her gut and did things the way she thought they should be done. Decades later the world has caught up to doing things her way and she is rightly lauded as being ahead of her time.
How I Built This is Guy Raz’s podcast about creators, dreamers and entrepreneurs and the stories behind the movements they built. One of the best podcasts out there if you need a little inspiration.
