The first bluefin tuna of 2015 auctioned at Tokyo’s famous Tsukiji fish market has sold for Y4.5 million, around $37,000.
The 400-lb tune was caught in Northern Japan and was bought by Kiyoshi Kimura (seen above in 2012) who owns a chain of sushi restaurants in Japan.
Kimura has bought the first tuna of the year since 2012, last year he paid Y7.36 million and in 2013 he paid an amazing Y155.4 million, around $128,000.
The first tuna auction of the year is a big tradition at Tsukiji fish market, Kimura says he plans to sell the fish at his Sushi Zanmai chain of restaurants.
