A Day at Altitude
This week on Fine Dining Lovers we headed to the hills of Cusco in Peru with the young chef Virgilio Martinez.
He runs the Central restaurant - voted as the highest riser on this year’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants List, and took FDL on a very special trip with him to meet a community of female farmers and head foraging in the Sacred Valley of Peru.
It’s a beautiful place that’s full of flavour and a piece that explores the exciting relationship at Central between food and altitude - a truly contemporary take on Peruvian cuisine.
The Taste of Colour
From Peru we stepped into the wacky and often surprising world of synaesthesia - a neurological cross wiring that cause certain people to taste colours, see sound or have certain flavours associated with words.
We attended an interesting event in Birmingham that tried to replicate the strange sensations involved with synaesthesia and we also looked at some of the world famous celebrities who have the condition - including Jimmy Hendrix.
It’s great piece that offers some insight into a mixed up sensory world that effects around 4 % of the world’s population.
Vegan Food in Tokyo
To finish the week we took a trip around the neon patchwork that is Tokyo in search for some of the best places to enjoy vegan cuisine in the city.
This vegan guide to eating in Tokyo starts at 7am in the morning with breakfast and proceed with ideas on where to eat throughout the day, finishing with a tipple of organic Japanese whiskey in the Setagaya district of Tokyo.
