Life's been going well so far this year for Alex Atala. The Brazilian chef was named in the Time magazine's list of 100 most influential people in the world and his restaurant D.O.M. in Sao Paulo ranked sixth on The World's 50 Best Restaurants list sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Aqua Panna.
So, what's next for Atala? For starters, he's got a new cookbook in the works with Phaidon. Called Alex Atala: Discovering New Brazilian Ingredients, the book will debut in September.
The book is based on Atala's lifelong passion for cooking with native ingredients from the Amazon, a topic the chef discussed extensively in a video interview with FDL.
In his pursuit to rediscover Amazonian ingredients, Atala recently teamed up with a handful of experts in various fields to launch Instituto Atá, an institute founded to protect and promote native Brazilian ingredients.
The video below shows a preview of Atala's cookbook and takes you on a journey through the beautiful Brazilian Amazon. To check out a pictures of Atala's cookbook and pre-order a copy head on over to Phaidon's website.
