Graphic designer Melanie Chernock has launched a project that aims to redesign the iconic New York City Metrocard in a new way. Even though the current Metrocard design has been around for years, it could use a little updating: the purpose of the project - NYC School of Visual Art's class assignment for creating "a deck of cards" - is to show the many ways there are to design a better Metrocard and to promote better design within the city.
Every area or districts has its own taste: meat for the Meatpacking District, spaghetti at Little Italy, herbs in the Gramercy Park.
Redesigning the Metrocard was an experimental process for Melanie: she had to make around 100 cards to get 25 good ones.
