The team behind the Italian food magazine Cook Inc. have released an ipad version of the mag and for the first time ever will make texts available in English.
The magazine, which is edited by the Italian born Anna Morelli, was released in 2011. Cook Inc. tells stories about all aspects of the food world with a strong focus on beautiful imagery and stories. The mag was previously published just three times a year in Italian but as Morelli told FDL recently the new app will feature lots of exciting new content and will finally be published in English.
"We've decided to go digital with the magazine because suddenly we realized that this magazine had to travel and it had to travel faster.
"Paper is in crisis all over the world, we still like the paper and we will still keep that in the Italian version but I realized we really had to be available in English.
"We've done the first issue in English and the app allows you to have lots of fun. We can put a lot of extra material on there - with the paper version we can be restricted and often leave good material out. We don't have this limitation with the app - all the photos we like can be included."
Recipes, videos and mini games with pictures are all included in the app, available for free in the Apple app store. Issues can then be downloaded as a preview before users must decide to purchase the mag if they wish to read the full version.
Cook Inc. had already gained a solid reputation in the industry and it seems the digital version is gaining some pretty influential fans. As Morelli told FDL, "I showed it to Albert and Ferran Adria and Albert said, 'I don't feel like doing my book anymore'."
The next English version is launched soon and although details of the content are tightly guarded Morelli did tell us to expect a beautiful picture reportage from a 74-course brunch at the Four Seasons in Florence.
The app is currently available for download in the Apple app store.
