Meet Traci Des Jardin, a James Beard Award winner and chef of the successful San Francisco restaurant Jardinieres.
In her TedX talk, Des Jardin goes into detail about her Mexican upbringing in a California farm town, her years of working in French kitchens as the sole female cook and how she managed to build a successful career.
She harps on the fact that it's all about the people you hire and how you treat them: ''One of the great compliments I hear about jardienere is how lovely my wait staff is and how happy they are. The cooks, the happier they are, the better food they make."
The chef also talked about gender issues in cooking and the importance of helping out the local community. You can watch the rest of her talk below.
