There’s a new kid on the block in the seemingly endless pursuit of extreme chili heat and it could be the world's hottest ever chili pepper.
Pepper X has been cultivated over 10 years by a guy called Smokin’ Ed Currie, who also created the notorious Carolina Reaper pepper. Coming in at a whopping, but yet to be rerified 3.18 million Scoville rating (the scale used to measure chili heat), Pepper X is way hotter than the previous world’s hottest pepper, the Dragon’s Breath, grown in Wales, by around 0.4 million.
Whether you’d actually want to eat Pepper X, Dragon’s Breath or the Reaper is another matter – there are plenty of videos of other people trying them online, which are far more fun, like the one below. But if you’re looking for ideas for how to cook with hot – but not that hot – chilis, take a look at this video detailing 11 hot chilis and how to cook with them.
