Kim's Uncle Pizza

While Chicago is often celebrated for its deep-dish pizza, many locals champion a different style entirely: the tavern-style pie. This is the singular focus at Kim's Uncle Pizza, a small Westmont shop dedicated to perfecting the form. Here, the pizza is defined by its cracker-thin crust, a brittle and sturdy base that maintains its crispness from the oven to the table. This foundation allows the other components to stand out, from the rich, slow-cooked tomato sauce to the high-quality cheese sourced from a single Wisconsin producer. The kitchen has become known for its exacting approach to this regional specialty. Toppings are applied with care, extending to the very edge of the crust, and the classic square party cut makes each piece an easily shareable bite. While traditional combinations are revered, the menu also features creations like pepperoni paired with a hot honey drizzle. The sausage, a cornerstone of Chicago pizza, is made to the restaurant's own specifications and has been noted for its robust fennel and pepper profile. The setting is as straightforward as the food. With just a couple of booths, the compact space channels a nostalgic, no-frills neighborhood pizzeria. There is no online ordering; guests must call in, a throwback detail that aligns with the timeless nature of the operation.
