Chef Joe Cash’s Scoundrel brings French bistro cooking to downtown Greenville, South Carolina. In November 2025, it became the city’s first restaurant to earn a Michelin star.

The name reflects the kind of character Cash has in mind: someone “charming and unpredictable, confident enough to break the rules, but clever enough to get away with it.”

Inside, exposed brick and wood floors sit alongside red banquettes and tall arched mirrors. Globe pendant lights hang above the bar, while a separate lounge offers space for cocktails. The design, by DP3 Architects, draws on old-school French brasseries.

Starters include Caesar salad, escargot, tableside steak tartare, and deviled blue crab. Caviar is served with crème fraîche and duck fat potato wedges that resemble hash browns. Mains range from duck breast dry-aged for two weeks to an Angus burger, alongside large-format dishes such as tomahawk steak and grilled branzino.

Matt Tellier leads the cocktail program, while wine director Angelika Wroolie oversees the wine list.

Scoundrel was named one of Esquire’s Best New Restaurants in America in 2023 and a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best New Restaurant in 2024. Cash became a James Beard Award finalist for Best Chef: Southeast in 2026.
