Little Birdie VA

A single chicken nugget served with caviar perfectly encapsulates Little Birdie. This dish captures the Alexandria restaurant's concept: a playful yet serious take on one of America’s most beloved foods. The kitchen, built around poultry sourced from trusted farms, has ambitions that go far beyond the conventional. This focus results in a carte where creativity and quality are applied to a familiar staple, creating something both accessible and intriguing. The foundation of the main offerings is the sandwiches, which use Japanese milk buns for their soft, pillowy texture. These creations have ranged from crispy spiced thigh preparations to a version glazed with gochujang and served with a pickled daikon and scallion slaw. While poultry is the clear highlight, the selection also makes room for seafood, including local oysters and tuna tartare, reflecting a commitment to seasonal and regional ingredients. This dedication to sourcing is evident, with partnerships extending to local bakeries and farms to ensure quality across the board. The beverage program follows a similar philosophy. House-bottled Birdtails and inventive spirit-free Mocktails are given the same attention as the food. Drinks like the Partridge, with pear, lemon, verjus, and green tea, demonstrate a thoughtful method for non-alcoholic options, ensuring a complete visit for every guest. This level of detail, from the composition of a sandwich to the balance of a mocktail, defines the thoughtful hospitality at Little Birdie, a neighborhood spot that reimagines the possibilities of the casual chicken-centric restaurant.
