Latin America is a diverse and vibrant region stretching from Mexico to Argentina. In recent years, cities like Mexico City, Lima (Peru) and Sao Paulo (Brazil) have gained international attention for dishing up some of the finest, most creative and innovative cuisine the world has seen. Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio is perhaps the most well-known culinary trailblazer in Latin America. His restaurant Astrid & Gastón ranks first on the prestigious Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants list but his gastronomic empire stretches around the world. The chef was a driving force for the annual Mistura festival, which takes place in Lima and highlights the vast diversity of Peruvian regions. Other renown chefs include Virgilio Martinez, who trained under Acurio, Mexican chef Enrique Olvera and Brazil’s Alex Atala, all of whom figure on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list sponsored by S.Pellegrino and Acqua Panna. In 2013, the Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurant awards were established to recognize the growth and development in this culinary destination and offer diners around the world a guide to the outstanding restaurants across Latin America.
